Desert Shadows Inn Resort To
Build Custom Homes in Palm Springs
Desert Shadows Inn Resort & Villas has been acknowledged by USA
Today as "the Jewel in the Crown of Nudist Resorts." Now, they have embarked
on another project aimed at making Palm Springs their own 'Naked City."
It will soon be easier to enjoy the Palm Springs lifestyle.naturally.
The latest addition to the world famous resort will be 17 custom homes
built across the street from the current Desert Shadows Resort. There are
plans to connect the two properties in the works. These modern split-level
homes will include indoor water features, two bedrooms, private patios
for sunning adjacent to the master suite, fireplaces, Jacuzzi tubs, and
the amenities guests have come to expect and enjoy at Desert Shadows.
This nudist community will be based on one of their architect's unique
designs for homes in the posh Las Palmas area of Palm Springs where the
movie stars of today are quickly buying up the original homes of the stars
from the 1950's and 1960's
This was the next step in the natural progression of Desert Shadows.
Desert Shadows Inn Resort & Villas has enjoyed national and international
recognition. The TRAVEL CHANNEL has featured this unique nudist vacation
experience on television for the last three consecutive years.
From their private balcony, all of the homes will have a magnificent
view of the mountains that surround Palm Springs. And every homeowner will
have access to full resort privileges and services. So, besides their own
private pool, spa and recreation room, they will be able to enjoy Desert
Shadows Inn's three pools, two outdoor whirlpools, exercise room, and lighted
tennis court. Meals can be enjoyed at the Sunset Café, their exceptional
full service restaurant and full bar. There are holiday dances, poolside
food and beverage service, and Palm Springs' only nudist full service licensed
SPA, the SPA at DESERT SHADOWS, featured nationally in Healing Retreats
and Spas magazine
The project, called ONE STEVENS PLACE at 100 Stevens Road, is across
from Desert Shadows Inn. And the City of Palm Springs is solidly behind
this further enhancement and expansion to Desert Shadows Inn. Palm Springs
has credited Desert Shadows Inn Resort & Villas as being the single
biggest factor in the revitalization of Uptown Palm Springs. This nudist
resort has even been recognized by the city with the Entrepreneur of the
Year Award.
The project is slated for completion in the fall. For more information,

How it all Began
How did this AANR and WSA club and resort get to the stage of developing
$300,000 custom homes in eight short years?
"The demand to join the Desert Shadows family since we opened in 1992
has been overwhelming," Ray Lovato, co-owner, explained. " The original
10 room Inn still remains as a tribute to the past in nude vacations in
Palm Springs. Its charm and quiet courtyard harkens back to simpler days.
But, every two years, the demand for Desert Shadows vacations out grew
even our expectations."
" We built Palm Springs' only clothes-free resort in 1994, adding a
restaurant and tennis court. Local press, politicians, and AANR members
were very supportive of our new endeavor. Then, after two years, the Villas
were the natural outgrowth of being the most popular Palm Springs naturist
resort. Upscale vacations in 1100 square foot private villas replaced small,
old rooms. There was nothing like it on the west coast.
"We were now meeting the expectations of a different vacationer - new
to nude recreation. Adding the first nudist spa in America was simply in
keeping with the desires of our guests. The SPA at DESERT SHADOWS, Palm
Springs only full service licensed spa, has been written up in GQ and Healing
Spas magazines."
"At the time of the addition of the 59 Villas, the trend in nude vacations
began to change across America. Look at the popularity of nude cruises
and the positive press that they have generated. We continued our 'Outreach
Program' to educate the general public about the best aspects of nude recreation.
More and more AANR clubs began to receive national exposure in magazines
and local recognition. Desert Shadows Inn Resort was featured on several
national programs like CNN, CNN ArtClub, and on the TRAVEL CHANNEL for
three consecutive years."
"Like the homes at Paradise Lakes," Lovato concluded, " there is a need
for a quality community built for nudists who want to live in a naturist
environment."
